한지 속 섬세한 드로잉을 통해 내밀한 일상을 이야기하는 작가는 이번 전시를 통해 < 벚꽃풍경 >(2024)을 비롯해 신작 수묵화 16점을 소개한다. 전통의 현대적 계승이라는 화두가 지속되는 가운데, 한국화의 전통을 받아들이고 숙성시켜서 자신만의 독자적 영역을 개척하고 있는 이영빈 작가는 주목할 만한 ‘젊은 한국화가’이다. 성신여자대학교에서 동양화로 학사, 석사를 취득하고 박사과정을 수료한 그는 한지에 수묵과 채색이라는 전통 재료와 기법으로 자신의 내밀한 일상에 천착한 그림을 그려왔다. 전통적 화목인 산수풍경 대신 작가가 오랜 시간 주목해 온 일상의 풍경은 작가가 개척해가는 한국화의 진화를 보여주는 단면이다.

 

작가가 화폭에 담은 순간들은 지극히 개인적이고 누구에게나 익숙한 삶의 풍경들이다. 벚꽃이 피었던 봄날의 아침, 얼음판 위에서 스케이트를 타던 겨울의 기억 등 소소한 삶의 단상들은 가늘게 흔들리는 섬세한 필묵의 선으로 눈 앞에 펼쳐진다. 단아한 작가의 성정을 닮은 듯한 소박한 선들과 담백한 면들은 익숙한 공간에 의미를 부여한다. 작가가 풀어놓는 평범한 일상에 대한 구체적 묘사는 그림을 바라보는 사람들에게 공감을 이끌어내고 추억을 소환한다.

The artist, who tells stories of intimate daily life through delicate drawings on Hanji(Korean traditional paper), introduces 16 new ink-wash paintings including (2024) through this exhibition. As the topic of modern succession of tradition continues, artist Lee Youngbin, who has accepted and matured the tradition of Korean painting and pioneered her own unique domain, is a notable “young Korean painter”. After obtaining a bachelor's and master's degree in Oriental painting at Sungshin Women's University and completing a doctorate program, she has been drawing her intimate daily life using traditional materials and techniques such asink-wash and color on Hanji. Instead of the traditional subject of landscape painting, the everyday landscapes that the artist has focused on for a long time are a cross-section that shows the evolution of Korean painting that the artist is pioneering.

 

The moments that the artist captured on the canvas are scenes of life that are extremely personal and familiar to everyone. Small moments of life, such as a spring morning when cherry blossoms bloomed or a winter memory of skating on ice, are unfolded in front of eyes with delicate lines of writing that shake. The simple lines and plain surfaces, which seem to resemble the elegant nature of the artist, give meaning to familiar spaces. The artist's detailed description of ordinary life draws sympathy and summons memories to viewers of the painting.
